Day 1: Activity Reports, Interest Group Reports, Brisbane Group Future Discussion, Governance Issues

  • 15 Activity reports presented, slides to be viewable as PDFs on TLSRCN web site
  • 6 Interest Group reports presented, slides also on TLSRCN web site
  • Brisbane Future Discussion: Papers in progress to be completed by author groups using telecons, emails.
  • Governance Issues discussed: Outreach, assessment, travel and participant support, supplementary support, diversity action, RCN-TLSIIG relationship, possible “Brisbane 2,” possible next meeting
  • There will be two types of all-hands telecons: Activity reports and Interest Group reports. To be alternated, with one every 5-6 weeks.
  • Other business: Possible next meetings: Tampere Tech, Harvard Forest; other possibilities. AGU get-together planned.

Day 2: Interest Group 4 Discussion, Ways Forward for ABLS, Ecological Applications

  • IG 4: Rather than subgroups, IG will focus on specific topics of interest, with ad hoc groups reporting and leading discussions by AV telecons
  • Way Forward, Aboveground Biomass Laser Scanner
    • New approach: Wait for new, low-cost scanners to emerge, adapt to forest scanning and biomass estimation
  • Way Forward, New Ecological Applications
    • Outreach to ecologists: Workshops before ecological meetings; review papers; special TLS sessions at ecology meetings
